In order to meet the human resource needs of the current health care environment, medical assistant certification is increasingly becoming an important credential to have, as more employers are preferring or even requiring that medical assistants working for them are certified. While certification is voluntary, understanding why employers are hiring certified medical assistants over those who are not certified is key to advancement within the field.
There are numerous reasons why more employers are hiring certified medical assistants, but the most underlying reason being lawsuits, which in today’s health care environment is becoming more of an epidemic. It used to be that disputes could be easily settled by discussion and mediation, however, now more than ever in today’s litigious society, attorneys are involved and the dispute escalates and more often than not ends up in a court of law. Unfortunately, when a medical practitioner does not meet a patient’s expectation resulting in anything less than a positive outcome, legal action often follows. For this reason alone, physicians, doctors and other health care practitioners have had to reinforce themselves against malpractice suits and other legal difficulties.
